Claude Dashboards vs Smart Business HQ: which fits a small business?
Claude Dashboards, in beta since 8 October 2026, is a quick way to ask questions of a data warehouse or Salesforce and get charts with their queries shown, and it comes with paid Claude plans. Smart Business HQ builds and hosts one board for a small business on a smartbusinesshq.com address, with automations and an approval step where anything sent waits for your yes unless you switch that tool to send by itself, and nobody needs a Claude account to open it. The two work well together: explore and sketch in Claude, then have us build and run the board.

The short version
Claude Dashboards is a tool for asking questions of company data. Smart Business HQ is a service that builds and runs one board for one small business. They overlap less than the names suggest.
We are not trying to beat Claude. Abel runs on the AI you connect. This page is written by Smart Business HQ, so we have kept to what Anthropic's own pages say and marked what they do not say.
What Claude Dashboards does well
Anthropic launched Claude Dashboards in beta on 8 October 2026. Here is what it is good at, in Anthropic's words where we can:
- Plain questions in, charts out. You "ask a question in plain language," and Claude writes the queries and builds the dashboard. Anthropic's tip is to say what you want to know, not just what to chart.
- Warehouses and connected apps. It reads Amazon Redshift, BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks and Snowflake, plus apps you have connected to Claude, with Salesforce as the example.
- It shows its work. Each chart shows its query and when its data was last refreshed. Click any number to see the query, or ask Claude to explain it.
- Edits by asking. "Add a filter for region" or "Change this to a weekly view" in the chat.
- Hand-offs to analytics tools. For deeper analysis you can send a dashboard to Amplitude, Grafana, Hex, Mixpanel, Omni, Perplexity, PostHog or Sigma.
- No extra price. It is included in Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and counts toward your plan's usage.
If your company data already sits in a warehouse and your team already uses Claude, it is a fast, low-effort way to get answers.
What Smart Business HQ does
Smart Business HQ builds a board around one business: views of its numbers and its work, automations that do the repetitive jobs, and an approval step where anything that goes out waits for your yes unless you switch that tool to send by itself.
- We build it. We interview you, design and build your board, connect your apps, and change it when you ask.
- It connects the apps you already use, such as a Shopify shop, Google Sheets, Google Analytics, YouTube and public review pages. Anything not on our shelf yet is built as a one-time custom build.
- It runs with nobody opening it. Scheduled jobs run on the board's own server, such as a morning briefing and reminders.
- It drafts; you approve. A reply, a refund, a payment, a post: each waits in Approvals for your yes unless you switch that tool to send by itself. Reading data needs no approval, because nothing leaves.
- Any AI behind it. The AI behind each automation can be switched. Abel runs on the AI you connect.
- Hosted by us, on a smartbusinesshq.com address. Every plan includes your own private server.
The differences that matter to a small business
Where your data lives
Claude Dashboards is built around a data warehouse or an app connected to Claude. Smart Business HQ connects the apps a small business runs on and does not read a warehouse or SQL database. If your numbers are in Snowflake or BigQuery, Claude Dashboards is the closer fit.
Who can open it
On Claude, everyone who opens a shared dashboard needs a Claude account, and a dashboard that reads connected apps uses each viewer's own connections. If a viewer cannot reach a source, that part shows an error. Dashboards that connect to apps cannot be shared by "Anyone with the link".
A Smart Business HQ board lives at a smartbusinesshq.com address. On a Business board your staff log in to the board itself, with access set per person, and nobody needs a Claude account or any AI seat to view it. It is not on your own domain, and it cannot be embedded in another site.
Keeping it current
Anthropic says Claude "keeps it current as the data changes" and shows when each chart was last refreshed. It does not say how often, or whether it updates while nobody has it open. An independent write-up of the earlier live artifacts (tl;dv, about 5 October 2026) found those refreshed when opened. Nobody has published an independent test of the new beta yet.
Smart Business HQ runs scheduled jobs on the board's server, so a morning briefing is ready before you look.
Doing work, with your yes
Anthropic's help pages say artifacts can read from and write to connected apps, and that connector tools needing approval for each action are not available to artifacts. Dashboards running jobs on a schedule is not described.
On a Smart Business HQ board, automations draft the work by rules you set, and outward actions such as a reply, a refund, a payment or a post wait in Approvals for your yes unless you switch that tool to send by itself.
Who builds it and keeps it right
Claude Dashboards is self-serve: you build it in a chat and keep it up yourself. With Smart Business HQ we build it, host it, and change it when your business changes.
Which AI runs it
Claude Dashboards runs on Claude. On a Smart Business HQ board, Abel runs on the AI you connect, and the AI behind each automation can be switched.
What it costs
If you already pay for Claude Pro or above, Dashboards adds no cost: Pro is $17 a month billed yearly or $20 monthly, per person. A Smart Business HQ Personal board is from $99 a month plus a setup fee, for one person. A Business board is quoted in a meeting. These buy different things, so compare the job, not the sticker.
Use both: design it in Claude, have us build and run it
A useful way to use Claude Dashboards with a small business is as the sketchpad. Here is the path our site supports today:
- Explore in Claude. Ask your questions, try charts, and settle what the board should answer.
- Write down what you settled. The questions, the numbers, what each number means, who should see what, what should happen on its own, and what should wait for your yes.
- Bring it to us. Start in the free board designer, where Abel asks a few questions and draws your board on sample numbers in your colours, or put your list in the message box on our contact form. A claude.ai link needs a Claude account and access to open, so a written list travels better. Claude can also design your board and send it to us through our connector.
- Meet, then build. In the meeting we tell you what we would build and what it costs. Then we build it on your apps, host it, and what goes out waits for your yes unless you switch that tool to send by itself.
What you gain: a board that is not tied to one AI model, sits on a smartbusinesshq.com address with no Claude account per viewer, runs automations with an approval step, and is hosted and kept right by us. What you give up compared with staying in Claude: reading a warehouse, the query shown under every chart, and instant edits by asking (with us, you ask and we change it).
Which should you pick?
- Claude Dashboards if you are on a paid Claude plan, your data is in a warehouse or Salesforce, you want quick answers, and everyone who needs to see it has Claude.
- Smart Business HQ if your numbers are in apps like Shopify, Google Sheets and review pages, staff without Claude accounts need to see the board, you want it ready every morning, you want drafts to wait for your yes, and you want someone else to build and look after it.
- Both if you like exploring in Claude but want the finished board run for the business.

Questions
Is Claude good for dashboards?
Yes, for quick, exploratory questions about data in a warehouse or an app connected to Claude, such as Salesforce. Each chart shows the query behind it and when its data was last refreshed, and it is included in paid Claude plans. Anthropic itself says dashboards are made for quick, exploratory questions and suggests sending deeper analysis to a BI tool.
Is Claude Dashboards free?
No. It is in beta on the Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans, not on Free. It has no separate price: Pro is $17 a month billed yearly ($200 up front) or $20 billed monthly, per person, and dashboards count toward your plan's usage limits.
What is a good Claude Dashboards alternative for a small business?
If you want to build it yourself without a data warehouse, look at Databox, Zoho Analytics, Papercrane or Looker Studio. If you want it built, hosted and run for you, with automations and an approval step, that is Smart Business HQ. Our full comparison of nine tools is at /compare.
Can people without a Claude account open a Claude dashboard?
No. Anthropic's help page says everyone needs a Claude account to open a shared artifact, even with the link, and a dashboard that reads connected apps uses each viewer's own connections.
Does Smart Business HQ use Claude?
Abel runs on the AI you connect. The AI behind each automation can be switched, so the board is not tied to one model.
Can I bring a dashboard I made in Claude to Smart Business HQ?
Yes, as a brief. Write down the questions it answers and the charts you settled on, then start in our free board designer or send it in the contact form. We build it as a working board on your own apps. A claude.ai link needs a Claude account and access to open, so a written list travels better.
